Bradshaw, Duche and Pirrone Nail Down Norwalk!
The Inaugural CHAOS Supernationals was held over Memorial Day weekend at the prestigious Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio on May 21st-24th. This marked the first time for the CHAOS brand to roll through the historic gates of Summit Motorsports Park and despite an unfavorable forecast, the CHAOS teams packed the pits with full fields in both Funny Car Chaos and DMP Awnings NITRO CHAOS series. An action packed day of testing on Thursday was just a preview of the ground pounding action on top for the remainder of the weekend.
On Friday morning at the drivers meeting, series director Chris Graves and facility owner Bill Bader Jr met with the CHAOS teams to go over the final plan for the weekend. The run schedule for Friday's qualifying was moved up to ensure both rounds of both sereis were able to be completed. Saturday was determined to be a wash, so all CHAOS eliminations were bumped to Sunday! Sunday! Sunday!
After two rounds of qualifying in Funny Car Chaos competition, Keith Zimmerer, Bobby Toth and Jordan Ballew qualified at the top of their respective fields as twenty four outlaw floppers were now ready to rumble on race day. In DMP Awnings NITRO CHAOS qualifying action, John Umlauf Jr and Dave Belock proudly led the qualifying of their classes into elimination Sunday as well.
Race teams took the day off on Saturday as the rain set in, but the entertainment wasn't going to stop from the Bader family, who hosted a pizza pit party for the CHAOS teams in the pits. Not a slice was left on the property and yes, all the beer was gone too!
It was now time for Sunday's eliminations and as promised from the beginning, despite the rain chances in mid-afternoon, the Summit Motorsports Park staff was bound and determined to complete this event. Nitro fumes and throttle whacks were filling the air by early morning as fans started pouring through the gates. It was time to play for keeps in Norwalk.
After some great side by side drag racing in the opening rounds, it was time for the last dance's of the weekend for the CHAOS finalists and first to the line was Oklahoma's Jordan Ballew's "Ballew Thunder" set to take on Joe Pirrone in the "Screamin Eagle" entry. Both these drivers were coming in hot off wins at the last event at the Texas Motorplex and now found themselves paired up in the Wulff Pumps 'C' Field final. Ballew had clicked off career best numbers earlier in the weekend and took a healthy starting line advantage but just ran out of ponies as his 4.27 at 167 was no match for Joe Pirrone's 4.07 at 180 mph as Pirrone scored his second consecutive event win.
In the AlkyDigger 'B' Field final round, first time CHAOS racer Dale Duche and the "Burnin' Benjamins" team from Pennsylvania was set to meet West Virginia's Kurt Duckworth, who was also in his debut event with the FCC series. Duckworth had been running well in his funny car trim debut but ran into mechanical issues in the semi-finals and was unable to make the call for the final. On a solo shot, Duche clicked off a 4.21 at 173 mph to score a memorable win for the team.
The Rodak's Custom Coffee 'A' Field brought points leader and top qualifier Keith Zimmerer to the line with his Will Hanna tuned and Texas based "Penny Pincher II" team set to take on first time finalists Alan Bradshaw in the "Dakota Pony II" owned by Dallas Schott. Both these cars were living in the 3.60 zone all weekend and this final round was sure to be a dandy. As they staged up, the revs came up and Zimmerer's car rolled the beam and went red, while Bradshaw clicked off his best run of the weekend with a 3.64 at 206 mph as the team erupted in celebration on the starting line.
DMP Awnings Nitro Chaos competition welcomed a pair of fuel altereds to the CP-Carrillo 'B' Field final round as Kansas' Anthony Whitfield and team "Mighty Mouse" prepared for battle against Texan Chuck Loftin and the "Crap Shoot" team. Loftin took the starting line advantage and never trailed as his 3.94 at 176 took the win.
The RBS Superchargers 'A' Field brought former series Champion Garry Wheeler Jr and the Oklahoma based "Grand Prix Racing" fuel dragster team to the line against first time finalist Dave Hill and the crowd favorite "Mad Max" Nitro Funny Car from Indiana. As the pair staged up, nitro fumes were pumping thick and at the flash of amber Hill took a slight starting line advantage. Side by side they charged and it was anyone's race, but at the stripe Hill's 3.61 at 215 mph edged out Wheeler's 3.67 at 204 as Hill and company took their first career Nitro Chaos event win!
Zimmerer, Pirrone and Ballew Top The Competition in Texas
The 6th Annual Spell Paving Services Funny Car Chaos Classic presented by Vertex Roofers delivered three days of CHAOS at the Texas Motorplex, April 9-11th. With pits packed with outlaw funny cars and nitro burners of all kinds the anticipation was high and the fun meter was pegged in Texas.
After two rounds of qualifying on Friday, Keith Zimmerer’s “Penny Pincher 2” funny car led the Rodak’s Custom Coffee ‘A’ Field into eliminations with a 3.59 at 210 mph. Mary Reep and Daniel Cottrell also claimed top qualifying positions in the AlkyDigger ‘B’ Field and Wulff Pumps ‘C’ Field.
In the DMP Awnings Nitro Chaos qualifying, Shawn Murphy wheeled his “Hillbilly” nitro funny car to the top spot in the RBS Superchargers ‘A’ Field with a 3.61 at 216 mph and Colin Thomas’ “Twisted Sister” fuel altered led the CP-Carrillo ‘B’ Field with a 3.97 at 188 mph.
After two days of fantastic weather Thursday and Friday, Saturday brought spotty showers through the area which resulted in some delays, but with the hard work from the Texas Motorplex staff, the track was dried twice during eliminations and we were able to deliver a full dose of CHAOS for a fantastic crowd on hand for the action.
In Funny Car Chaos ‘A’ Field action, Keith Zimmerer continues to prove he is the man to beat as he advanced past Mark Billington and Alex Barker to meet Mike Newkirk in the final round. Newkirk had knocked out John Robinson and Aaron Morrow, but would have his hands full with Zimmerer. A -.066 reaction time for Newkirk told the tale in the final round, as Zimmerer gave it a quick pedal job to a 3.76 at 205 to score his second straight Rodak’s Custom Coffee ‘A’ Field win this season.
The AlkyDigger ‘B’ Field found Joe Pirrone’s “Screamin Eagle” entry advancing past Daniel Butherus and Bobby Toth to meet Wayne Hofmann’s “China Syndrome” in the final round. Hofmann had claimed win lights over top qualifier Mary Reep and Casey Geeslin on his way to the last dance. In the final, Pirrone’s 3.94 at 184 mph took the win over Hofmann’s 4.06 at 172 mph.
Wulff Pumps ‘C’ Field eliminations came down to Jordan Ballew in the “Ballew Thunder” versus Steve Vang in the “Prairie Fire” entry. Vang took the starting line advantage but Ballew had the ponies at the big end and his 4.35 at 162 mph drove around Vang’s 4.74 at 143 mph.
In Nitro Chaos action, the RBS Superchargers ‘A’ Field final round was set to see Jake Sanders in “The Menace” do battle with Garry Wheeler Jr’s “Grand Prix Racing” team in a battle of outlaw front engine nitro dragsters. Wheeler’s car suffered race ending damage in the semi-finals as Sanders fired up for the solo shot, but Sanders had issues himself during the burnout and elected to stage and take the tree to ensure the win. Not the wild header flaming side by side battle we had hope for, but a win none the less for Sanders.
CP-Carrillo ‘B’ Field action welcomed Joe Kostelecky’s nostalgia top fueler and Brian Kohlmann’s “Street Fuel Coupe” to the line for the last CHAOS final round of the night. The cars were off the line together and immediately Kohlmann’s car was smoking heavily and as they neared the stripe Kohlmann took the win, the lost control in his own fluid and ended up on its side and on fire at the quarter mile mark. Thankfully CHAOS top end safety director Brad Thompson was perfectly positioned to extinguish the flames within literal seconds and Kohlmann was able to walk away from the very wild final round ride.
Congratulations to all the CHAOS winners from the Texas Motorplex and thank you for your continued support of the series! The next stop for CHAOS is coming up May 21-23rd as the series makes its debut at the one and only Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio for the Inaugural CHAOS Supernationals, which features both Funny Car Chaos and Nitro Chaos over Memorial Day Weekend.
CHAOS Rocks Tulsa as Zimmerer, Massey & Chatfield Claim Victory
Funny Car Chaos kicked off the highly anticipated 2026 season with its state of Oklahoma debut at historic Tulsa Raceway Park on March 26-28th. Welcomed with wild spring time weather patterns which recorded temperatures as high as 90 degrees on Thursday to highs as low as 60 degrees on Friday, crew chiefs and drivers both needed to be on their game at the season opener.
A stacked field of twenty eight teams from across the country jammed the pits with their outlaw flip top floppers and Friday night played host to some exciting qualifying action which was led by Keith Zimmerer and team "Penny Pincher 2" who clicked off career best numbers with a 3.58 at 211 mph to take the top spot in the Rodak's Custom Coffee 'A' Field. Doug Schneider's "Milliken Monster" score the top qualifying position in the AlkyDigger 'B' Field and Danny Mann's "Pony Up" entry led the Wulff Pumps 'C' Field ladder.
With warmer weather forecasted for Saturday, it was time to pray for some sunshine and get ready to play for keeps during eliminations. As predicted, Saturday's weather was simply outstanding and the racing on the track certainly was too as some very close side by side funny car action was delivered in the opening rounds of eliminations. Opening the final round action was Cody Chatfield in the "Booze Brothers" flopper alongside first time CHAOS participant Daniel Cottrell in his "Glass Chariot" entry. Cottrell had been very strong on the starting line all weekend and that performance continued with a .004 reaction time, but his 4.22 at 166 just wasn't enough to hold off a career best charge from Chatfield as his 4.11 at 173 mph took the win.
Robbie Massey and Doug Schneider were set to do two lane battle in the AlkyDigger 'B' Field final round, but a wild parachute mishap during the semi-finals damaged Schneider's car beyond repair so Massey enjoyed a competition bye run in the final where he also clicked off a career best number with a stellar 3.61 at 206 mph. The last pair of the weekend featured two heavy hitters in Keith Zimmerer and Kirk Williams. Zimmerer took a slight starting line advantage and never trailed as his consistent and strong 3.60 at 211 mph took the nod over Williams' close 3.65 at 208 mph.
Congratulations to Zimmerer, Massey and Chatfield on their big wins to kick off the 2026 season and teams will have just a short time to service their hot rods before our next stop on tour at the one and only Texas Motorplex, April 9-11th! BE TEHRE!
Funny Car Chaos Releases 2026 Championship Tour Schedule
The 2026 Funny Car Chaos Championship Tour schedule is out and we are looking forward to more run whatcha' brung outlaw funny car action next season! Mark those calendars, pick your favorites and we'll see you...at the CHAOS!
Herbst Clinches The Championship! Williams and Hofmann Score Big Wins
The 2025 Funny Car Chaos Championship Finals rocked historic Great Lakes Dragaway in a two day festival of floppers that would decide who would hoist the Championship trophy on Saturday night! A three way contention was led by Keith Zimmerer coming into the weekend but Brian Lewis and Justin Herbst were hot on his heels as each and every round of qualifying and eliminations would prove pivotal in the quest for the top of the standings.
After three rounds of qualifying, Keith Zimmerer and Justin Herbst both led their respective fields and maximized their points earning opportunity during qualifying. This put them tied headed into eliminations. Brian Lewis' hopes faded early with a tough first round loss, while Zimmerer and Herbst marched round by round into the finals of the 'A' and 'C' Fields.
In the Wulff Pumps 'C' Field, Herbst came to the line in a big match with Jordan Ballew. Ballew's team hopped it up for the last dance of the season and unfortunately ran into engine problems near the finish line, opening the window for Herbst to pull ahead and take the win at the stripe in a critical round for his title hopes.
The AlkyDigger 'B' Field welcomed Wayne Hofmann and rookie Luke Furr to the starting line and Hofmann used a holeshot to score his first win of the season, a welcome result after a trouble filled year for Hofmann. Furr looked strong in only his second CHAOS race of his career and will be a contender moving forward.
The final round of the final race of the season. Zimmerer versus Williams. The heaviest hitters on the property, ready to drop the hammer for all the marbles. They ripped off the line side by side with almost identical reaction times. Wide open and charging hard the cars neared the stripe and Zimmerer fell behind and watched Williams take the stripe, clinching the 2025 Championship for Herbst!
What an intense finish to an exciting season of Funny Car Chaos action! Congratulations to all of our Top 10 finishers and to Justin Herbst and team "Executioner" on an impressive Championship effort!
Zimmerer, Cook & Chatfield Make the Most of Mo-Kan!
As the Funny Car Chaos competitors piled into historic Mo-Kan Dragway for the 60th Annaul running of the Ozark Crane Services Labor Day Weekend Classic presented by Fleet Fuels LLC, the atmosphere was electric and anticipation was mounting. A heated points battle is brewing in CHAOS land and this event would prove pivotal to those in the hunt to become a Champion.
With pending final rounds still to be contested from a rain delayed Byron event, Brian Lewis and Justin Herbst led the standings coming into Mo-Kan. Herbst added to that total with a win in his postponed final over Neil Girot, which was run during qualifying at Mo-Kan. A first round loss for Herbst in the Mo-Kan event itself, then opened the door for the competition to make a move. Lewis then took a surprising semi-final round loss on a holeshot to Kirk Williams. Meanwhile, top qualifier Keith Zimmerer was clicking off win lights and found himself in the final round of the Rodak's Custom Coffee 'A' Field to face Williams.
Avid CHAOS fans will recall, at this event last season, Kirk Williams red lit his way out of the Championship chase in a huge first round bout with eventual Champion Shayne Lawson. Williams now lined up with top qualifier Zimmerer and again, the red light lit up at the flash of amber. Just after leaving the line, Zimmerer's car spit the blower belt off, but the red light told the story as Zimmerer claimed victory and more of those precious points with the win for team "Penny Pincher" at Mo-Kan.
AlkyDigger 'B' Field action found Jade Cook and Justin Malott ready for the final rounds as Cook came in the favorite on paper and with a number of Mo-Kan Dragway FCC event wins already in her trophy case. Cook was off the line first and never trailed as her 4.07 at 172 mph held of Malott's 4.19 at 168 mph. Congratulations to team "Nemesis" on a big win and another Mo-Kan FCC trophy to add to her collection.
The Wulff Pumps 'C' Field welcomed team "Booze Brothers" and driver Cody Chatfield to the line ready to take on Chance Biffle, teammate to Jade Cook. A blown head gasket unfortunately sidelined the "Bad Intentions" team, which gave Chatfield the competition bye run in the final. Chatfield and company lived in the 4.20's all weekend and celebrated their first CHAOS event win at Mo-Kan in style.
The 2025 Funny Car Chaos Championship will come down to an extremely exciting event as the CHAOS makes its debut at historic Great Lakes Dragaway on September 26-27th. Do yourself a favor and make your plans...to BE THERE!
The Funny Car Chaos and DMP Awnings Nitro Chaos series are very excited to announce it will be offering free in-house live streaming productions of all of its events for the remainder of the 2025 season and beyond. The CHAOS concept of ‘run whatcha’ brung’ drag racing was first introduced by Texas based series owners Chris & Tera Graves in 2017 and since then has blossomed into one of the largest independent drag racing brands in the world.
Over two hundred different funny car teams have participated in Funny Car Chaos and the support of the newly formed DMP Awnings Nitro Chaos series has welcomed over fifty different outlaw nitro participants since 2023. The CHAOS movement is undeniable and has also led to the addition of Fuel Altered Chaos, a new single event to be held November 14-15th at Tucson Dragway, open to any altered of any kind. With a focus on fun and affordability for both racers and spectators, the future looks strong for the CHAOS brand and an in-house live stream production is just one of the many steps forward to help continue and grow the brand.
Lee Craft (aka Monday Morning Racer) will lead the production team with official CHAOS videographer James Armstrong. Both Craft and Armstrong have been with CHAOS for many years and are geared up to bring the CHAOS live to the entire globe. Exclusive interviews, between round pit area angles and more are just a part of the package team CHAOS will deliver in its event streams.
“Through the years we’ve done lots of live streaming. We were actually the first ‘competitive’ drag racing event post-Covid and offered pay-per-view at that time to fund the purse for the racers at that event, which was pretty wild. CHAOS has done a lot of firsts over the years which has helped the brand grow and we are finally at a point where we can produce our own live streams in-house, the way we want to do it. It’s a very exciting benefit to offer our racers, fans and marketing partners who have helped build the CHAOS into what it is today,” says Chris Graves.
All events moving forward will be free to stream on the CHAOS YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/@FunnyCarChaos as well as the series Facebook pages. The first steam will be airing this weekend as the Funny Car Chaos series makes its first ever appearance at Illinois’ Byron Dragway.
Lewis, Minick and Loveall Score at Cordova Dragway Summer Nationals
The CHAOS blew through the gates of historic Cordova Dragway for the Twisted Shifterz Summer Nationals in June 13-14th. A fleet of over 32 outlaw funny cars from across the country packed the pits for two days of ground pounding action which also included a non-stop lineup of gassers, nostalgia pro stockers and super stockers, outlaw pro mods, fire breathing jets and more! The weekend was full of awesome racing, great weather and was capped off with three first time CHAOS winners celebrating in the winners circle.
After three wild sessions of qualifying the fields were set and they were tight. Close and competitive racing in eliminations was imminent and that is just what the capacity crowd got when it came time to play for keeps. The Rodak's Custom Coffee 'A' Field delivered big numbers on the scoreboard through first and second round with many cars in the low 3.70s at 200 plus mile per hour. Keith Zimmerer's "Penny Pincher 2" tuned by Will Hanna and CHAOS rookie Brian Lewis and team "Grumpy 2" found themselves in the waterbox ready to flex their muscle for the event win in a Texas -vs- Oklahoma showdown. Lewis clicked off a his best pass of the event when it mattered most as his 3.69 narrowly defeated Zimmerer's 3.72 at the stripe. Lewis and company were consistent, quick and put together a string of impressive runs to score their first Funny Car Chaos event win in only their third event with the series.
In the AlkyDigger 'B' Field, competition was equally tough and some close racing dwindled down to a truly chaotic pair. Bobby Martin was making his series debut in his Pennsylvania based 'Supercharger' after a long hiatus from driving a funny car, his last win being the 2009 U.S. Nationals in TA/FC competition. Alongside was none other than the world famous "Chi-Town Hustler" with Mike Minick behind the wheel looking to defend home turf at Cordova and claim his first series win. The cars left the line together and were charging hard, when Martin's entry made a wild move across the centerline. Minick had an up close and personal view, wisely shutting off as the cars came close to making contact, but thankfully they did not as Minick and company celebrated their first Funny Car Chaos event win.
Wulff Pumps 'C' Field racing came down to Lee Loveall driving Rodger Eckhardt's Oklahoma based "Giant Killer" set to take on Dana Klienhoffer's "Tremor" machine from Illinois. Loveall was fired up for this one and took a large starting line advantage, coupling that with a 4.24 at 167 to Klienhoffer's close 4.25 at 167 mph.
Three first time winners, white knuckle ground pounding outlaw funny car action, fantastic weather and a capacity crowd all combined for a spectacualar weekend at the Twisted Shifterz Summer Nationals at Cordova Dragway. The next stop on the 2025 Funny Car Chaos tour will bring the series south to Tulsa Raceway Park for the rain delayed series debut in Oklahoma, June 27-28th. We'll see you...at the CHAOS!
Zimmerer, Malott and Herbst Claim Victory at Chaos in the Cornfield
The 2025 Funny Car Chaos Championship tour rolled into Iowa on May 23-25th to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Eddyville Raceway Park at the 2nd Annual Twisted Shiferz and 360-Steel CHAOS in the Cornfield presented by Stanke Motorsports. This event is a special three day, double feature show also headlined by the DMP Awnings Nitro Chaos series. Twenty five outlaw funny cars strutted their stuff over Memorial Day weekend and Sunday's eliminations saw some wild racing from the FCC competitors in their quest for points, bragging rights and their share of the $33,000+ guaranteed purse.
In Wulff Pumps 'C' Field action, Justin Herbst and team "Executioner" found themselves in their second straight final round up against first time finalist and friendly rival Danny Mann in the "Pony Up" entry. After full eighth mile side by side burnouts, Herbst took the starting line advantage and never trailed with his best pass of the weekend, a 4.36 at 161 mph to Mann's 4.73 at 148 mph. Herbst is now sitting second in the current FCC points standings with his back to back final round appearances.
Two additional first time finalists came to the line in the AlkyDigger 'B' Field as Justin Malott's High Risk Performance tuned "Must Be Nice" entry prepared to face Lee Loveall in the "Giant Killer" Nova. Malott blasted off the line with the reaction time advantage and shortly after Loveall had problems and was forced to lift, giving him the best seat in the house to watch Malott and company take their first career FCC event win with a 4.19 at 180 mph. Malott's Ken Singleton tuned entry used consistency to claim their win with a 4.18, 4.19 and 4.19 in eliminations.
A powerhouse match-up of screwn blown alcohol burners came to life in the final round of the Rodak's Custom Coffee 'A' Field as the Will Hanna tuned "Penny Pincher 2.0" entry of Keith Zimmerer prepared for battle against defending series Champion Shayne Lawson and team "Man O' War" also tuned by Ken Singleton. Lawson took a slight starting line advantage and the cars were wide open and side by side at half-track. Towards the top end Zimmerer was making a move while the "Man O' War" machine made a steady drift to the centerline and collected the cones as Zimmerer took the win with a 3.71 at 203 mph.
Shayne Lawson will take a one point lead over Justin Herbst into the next points event, Cordova Dragway's Twisted Shifterz Summer Nationals, to be held June 13-14th in Illinois. We'll see you...at the CHAOS!
Lawson, Irwin, Cook & Simpson Take Texas Motorplex Victories
FINALLY the 2025 Funny Car Chaos Championship tour was able to kick off at the 5th Annual Spell Paving Services Funny Car Chaos Classic at the Texas Motorplex, presented by Vertex Roofers. Weather postponed the original date but that didn't stop the CHAOS teams from showing up in full force as the pits filled quickly with outlaw funny cars of all kinds from across the country for their shot at the first win of the new season. A massive thirty two car qualified field took the track under ideal weather conditions in Texas and the battle for round wins was on in the A-B-C-D fields of competition.
Pair by pair and round by round the upsets continued and excitement built leading into the final rounds. Todd Simpson was the first winner of the night in the Texas Motorplex 'D' Field as he wheeled Mitch King's "Bone Shaker" to the win with a 3.94 at 196 over Justin Herbst. Jade Cook and team "Nemesis" clinched the Wulff Pumps 'C' Field win at the starting line when Tony Arcuri went -.018 red and Cook's 4.08 at 173 mph took the win.
AlkyDigger 'B' Field action welcomed a thrilling pair as first time finalist Mike Irwin laid down an impressive 3.80 at 185 mph in the "Strange Behavior" nitro funny car to narrowly defeat Dave Hill's 3.91 at 186 mph. In the Rodak's Custom Coffee 'A' Field first time CHAOS participant Brian Lewis was forced to shutoff with a fuel leak which gave defending Funny Car Chaos series Champion Shayne Lawson a solo shot and his 3.75 at 199 mph would have been tough to beat as the Ken Singleton tuned "Man O' War" locked in their first win of the 2025 season.
Congratulations to all the winners of the season opener and we now set our eyes on the next stop on the Funny Car Chaos tour on May 23-25th in a three day CHAOS double down at Eddyville Raceway Park. Make your plans to join us at the Twisted Shifters & 360-Steel CHAOS IN THE CORNFIELD presented by Stanke Motorsports! We'll see you...at the CHAOS!
